windows updates

why, when you get an update from Microsoft, do they insist on scattering shortcuts to Windows Media Player all through your toolbars, favorites list, desktop etc,etc..........

why is it that Real Player never functions properly after a windows update?

Is there ever any useful software in these updates?

I can't think of any other industry that could get away with behaving like this.

Imagine, if you will, you have just bought the very latest model car.Two weeks after delivery, they ring you and say,"We'd like to change the tyres, they're not quite right."
The mechanic comes round, fixes the tyres and re-tunes the radio to his favorite station.

A couple of weeks later, the dealership is on the phone again"the alternator has a defect ,it will break if you try to run it at full speed"
Around comes the mechanic, fixes the alternator, retunes the radio.

A couple of months pass, you are getting your car just the way you like it,got the springs lowered, got the sound system, got the mags,etc,etc...the phone rings once more.....yup,it's that damn car dealer again..."Somebody has figured out that we only used cheapass locks on that model, your security is at risk, can we upgrade them?"
The mechanic comes round, fixes the the locks, rips out your sound system, replaces it with the factory model and re-tunes it to the same damn radio station..........

Come on,guys, what's the guts?can't I choose for myself what software I use? Can't you get an OS up to speed before you release it for sale?I can't think of one other industry that can get away with putting out such poorly-finished goods into the market as Microsoft.Except maybe Lada.

Mac is also kinda bad, but it always leaves everything else as it stood. At the same time, the only reason why I bother updating is because I have my OS set up to always check for Updates to my software. I can always choose not to install them.

The computer realm of today is getting worse and worse... Next thing you know they'll find a way to send electrical impulses through the keyboards thus killing the user, and they'll get away with murder, literally. :o

Well I don't particualy like having to get Windows Updates, but i'll put up with. Considering most of them stop security holes in the whole OS.

Yes some of the holes are there from bad programming, but alot of them are just there as people try and break into the whole OS system. So i'rd rather put up with having to download updates every so often, then having my computer get wrecked on me.

Real Player isn't even a microsoft program, so it wouldn't even be getting affected by the updates. Hell i've never had these updates change my system ever.

Oh and I resent the comment about Ladas, they are actually quite good reliable cars!

I have Windows XP Pro and I choose when I want to d/l the updates. I also have Realoneplayer and the updates never affect it on either my computer or my wifes. Media Player sucks IMO but you cannot fully remove it from Windows. Besides if its microsoft then it can never be patched enough

I've been running 2000 Professional for a couple years now. I run the updates on a regular basis and have had ZERO problems with any of them. I can't say the same for people I know who run 98 or ME, but 2000 Pro has been a real winner in my book.
