'91 RS Relay problem

A while back I went to replace the Cooling fan relay but the car wouldn't crank after doing so. The car set for a while longer while trying to figure out the new problem. Someone told me the new problem might be cause by the fuel pump relay, but when I went back under the hood I found out that I left only one of the three relays on the firewall hooked up and now I cant even find a third harness. I cant remember anything about the set-up from when I first messed with the relays, but Im pretty sure with there being three relays that there should be more than two harnesses. Looking at the Haynes manual I see three - Fuel pump relay, Cooling fan relay, and Air conditioning compressor relay. Can anyone tell me what the color code on the wires to the harnesses are and why I am missing a harness?

Re: '91 RS Relay problem

One set of wires must have fallen down somewhere but there are definitely three relays there and they should all be hooked to harnesses....

The AC relay should have a light blue, Pink/black , and I think two dark green

the fuel pump has a black/white , dark green/white, red, and grey wires

the cooling fan has a red wire, tan/white, dark green/white, black/red wires

hope that helps... if you put the key to start you should hear the fuel pump energize...

Re: '91 RS Relay problem

Ok, that helped me figure out which of the two harnesses I can see is the fuel pump relay harness. I still cant find the third harness. Hopefully I can explain this picture well enough for someone to understand and help me with my problem.

First of all this is as it says a picture of an MPFI V6, but I have a TBI V8. Cant find a picture in the manual of my model. Ok, the red squares are just to show what area Im dealing with here, the blue is where I have something mounted to the bracket that the relays are on, and the yellow is to show that there is no area pointing to this but I do have one there. My first question is, are the arrows pointed to the right places? Because as far as I can see nothing is pointed to the one in the yellow square and arrow 14 is pointed to nothing at all. Also, what is the thing mounted to the front of my bracket for? Its a flat five prong thing that isnt in this picture. My last is, are the relays all the same? Like if I take the harness out of one relay and plug it into another, will it still work? Thanks in advance, this problem is really driving me nuts. Especially the part where I cant even find the third harness(AC compressor).

Re: '91 RS Relay problem

One more question. How hard would it be to change this motor from TBI to Carbureted? Other than changing out the intake manifold, what else would I need to change if possible?

Re: '91 RS Relay problem

you would need a non computer distributor.

Probrably a stupid question, but will the fuel pump still pump enough to have the injectors drip with a faulty fuel pump relay?

If the pump runs, then yes. And without a working realy the car will still run. The oil pressure switch will close a circuit to the pump once it sees 7-8 PSI.

Re: '91 RS Relay problem

Well, when I try to crank the car all I get is a slight drip. I havent really tried to see if I can hear the pump running. Im starting to think going by the picture in the Haynes manual of the MPFI V6, which is the closest of the two to my engine compartment, wasnt such a good idea. I probrably unhooked the relay to the fuel pump and damaged something, somehow, while trying to replace the cooling fan relay. I just want this nightmare to be over. I have an intake, a carbureter, a manual fuel pump, and non computer distributor. Is there anything else I would need to do or have to change this TBI system to carbureted?
