2003 sonoma wont start

Hello;

I own a 2003 sonoma zr5 4x4

I have had a few problems with this truck the most recent being it wont start.

I drove it last night park in the driveway. woke up this morning got in my truck and turn the key only to hear nothing.

all my lights come on I have power it just wont turn over. when I turn the key my dash lights go off just like when its starting but no noise. nothing. just sits there.

I didnt seem to notice any bad wires. Battery terminals look ok.

what should I try.

Welcome to AF.

If starter will not turn the engine.
Start with checking battery and battery voltage.
Check battery cables and power feeds.

Will it crank with a jump start or battery charger?
What is the battery voltage reading?

I Just glimpsed over battery and cables this morning because I had to get to work. Will check more thoroughly tonight.

It will not crank while on a battery charger/starter. Witch I believe is because the starter is not being powered. So i'm thinking bad wire or connection somewhere.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will check back in later.

Clean and check battery cables pos and ground both.
Check for 12-13 volts battery voltage .
Check all fuses and fuse links.
Check for good 12 volts to fuse boxes.
If all else fails jumper the purple wire to starter solenoid and see if starter turns it over.
If so check neutral saftey switch or clutch switch and ign switch and crank fuse and starter relay.
If not make sure it is getting good battery voltage to the solenoid big battery pos cabel and connections at stater are good clean and tight.
If good voltage with purple wire jumped the starter or solenoid is bad.
Good Luck

Re: 2003 sonoma wont start

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I got it fixed, although I'm not 100% sure what it was. I will be checking over things next few nights.

It was actually my Dad who fixed it. He came home from work told me to go out to the truck turn everything on. My headlights, 4 ways, cabin lights, Stereo. He said to put as much load of the electrical as possible. Pump the brake pedal and turn the key.

I was like um ok. ( I secretly thought that he was just going senile and that it would never work.)

So we went to try it. sure as S&^$ sucker cranked and started like a champ.

He said fathers trade secret. That was the end of the night.

so yeah I don't know but wanted to share that with everyone in case anyone else came up with same problem.

I did check my battery, fuse box everything for proper voltages everything seemed to be ok. All my plugs and wires are fine. everything appears good and there does not seem to be any problems but I am gonna keep a eye on it either way.

Is there some sort of relay somewhere between the starter and battery that could have got stuck in the open circuit position. Where the heavy load spiked the relay and caused it to trip into proper working closed circuit position?

Thanks for all the quick post and suggestions.

Now for me to concentrate on my next problem regarding my 4x4 in a new thread.
