92 Lumina Z34 Shifting Issues

Hi

I'm kind of new. I have been reading all the posts about shifting issues with a Lumina z34. The only thing I have not seen anyone come back to say the fixed the issue. I have an automatic the engine is really strong and the car idles and drives like its new. I have changed the fuel pump and fuel filter myself. I have found that I was not getting any vaccum. So I found by the Map Sensor a connecting unit that the map sensor connects to was cracked. I found a new from a autoparts place in Michigan. Changed that and checked all vaccum lines and found that the metal or steel line under the 3.4 cover was blocked. I used a high pressure air cleaner and made sure all the guck and blocked particles was out until nothing else was coming out. After that i had vaccum. But the car still does not shift good. But it is better than before. Now I have a VSS sensor and the 3 shift solenoids to put on. I have not replaced these yet because the solenoids looks like a big job. The VSS is located near the altenator but is very hard to reach. Can someone let me know if someone has found out the issue of this.

Please let me know from Montreal Canada.

Thanks
CB

Re: 92 Lumina Z34 Shifting Issues

Can someone please help. I'm going to try by changing my Vaccum Modulator to see if this could be the problem. I did not see any fluid come out, but according to my father in-law the inside has a diaphram that must be no good. If this does nto work I will try putting in some Chevron fluid or seafoam transue fluid. If I figure out the problem I will let everyone know.

Thanks
CB

I guess it would help if you described the type of problem you are having.

"Shifting issues" is not descriptive enough for any meaningful advice...

Re: 92 Lumina Z34 Shifting Issues

when was the last time your tranny was serviced? try taking a pint of tranny fluid out and replace it with a pint of seafoam transtune. drive normally for a couple days, then flush the tranny... sounds kinda stupid but seafoam will break up any build up and make them float in the fluid, allowing you to flush them out. it will also lubricate the tcc...
I had a similar issue to yours, after I did this, problem solved. its worth a shot. it also wouldnt hurt to do an entire upper intake cleaning, deep creep works well for that...
as far as the vacuum goes, make sure you have a good sealed line from the vacuum resevoir. it is in the driver side fender wall in front of the tire. when you move the battery around for any reason, this line along with a line for the a/c runs underneath it and can get damaged. double check these to be sure. the vacuum diagram for this car is very easy and can be replaced with silicon hose in less than 30 minutes. if you continue to have issues after checking all of these items, pop your egr off and clean it out, hose as well, dont forget new gaskets "they run only a couple bucks each"...
let us know how it turns out...

Re: 92 Lumina Z34 Shifting Issues

Hi

Thanks for help. My tranny was serviced about 3 months ago with a new filter as well. I checked the level to make sure I had enough tranny fluid and it was good. I tried some seafoam transtune and I will see how it turns out. If not I 'm going to check the Vaccum resevoir. I will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks
