How to fetch codes from the diagnostic center under the dash:

Ground terminals A and B with the ignition "ON" and engine not running. The system will enter the diagnostic mode. In this mode, the computer will display a 12, three consecutive times, by flashing the
"CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" or light. A 12 consists of one flash, a short pause, then two flashes in rapid succession. After 12 is displayed, any stored trouble s will be displayed by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" light. All are displayed 3 times each then a 12 will repeat. In the diagnostic mode, the computer will also energize all computer controlled relays and solenoids.

Do these codes / instructions also work on a 97?

No 97 is obd 11, completely different.

You forgot 12. No, 12 is NOT, repeat, NOT a code meaning "everything O.K." or "diagnostic mode" as some have reported. 12 means "distributor/ignition reference pulses missing, " a condition which occurs whenever the ignition is on and the engine is not running. It can also be a stored error code caused by interruption of distributor or ignition reference pulses while the engine is running.

You are correct that they are only applicable to 1993 and earlier models. 1994-95 models used the same code scheme but the 33 and 34 are for a MAF sensor over- or under-reporting intake air for 600mS while running, along with some other significant differences.

I have a 92 Lumina APV. I have fault codes 15,16,21,23,43, and 68. The van stalls out intermittently especially while its warming up. Seems unlikely all these components would fail at once. Could it be a ground issue somewhere? Any ideas would be helpful.

Have you researched the codes for an idea of what is what? The list is above, usually a bad ground would not correspond to these codes, but look at the sensor grounds on the engine and inner fenders. Troublecodes.net also has a list of them. Coolant temp sensor is one issue that could cause poor cold performance.

Ya I am going to make sure all the grounds are good. was also wondering if a bad coil pack could be causing this problem?

These codes are effective on1990-1993&4 on the 3.1L first generation engine (MPFI), but not on any of the 1993 & up 3100 (3.1L seecond generation SFI) systems.
