2002 SL2 - Engine Pings...
I have a 2002 SL2 with ~ 110,000 miles on it. When the engine is under load, there is a lot of pinging coming from it. Does this engine have self adjusting valves or do I need to bring it in and get the valves adjusted? Does anyone think there could be a more significant problem going on? If so, is there anything I can do to troubleshoot it further? The recomended octane for this car is 87 and I have tried 89, but this does not seem to help...
Thanks! |

Re: 2002 SL2 - Engine Pings...
The valves aren't going to have anything to do with pre-detonation. Fuel mixture, compression, ignition timing and carbon build-up will. You might have a faulty knock sensor that's not throwing a code. Or, you could have too much carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. There may be something I'm not thinking of, but that is what comes to my mind.
