98 Olds Silhouette Computer Problems ?

I Took My Van To The Local Dealer Ship Because It Would Crank Over But Would Not Start .
The Van Died While Driving Down The Road.the Dealer Ship Check It Out
And Told Me That It Had No Error Codes But Did Have Spark.also Said They Could Not Communicate
With The Pcm.they Told Me It Possibly Could Be Wiring Or The Computer And/or The Fuel Pump.
They Wanted $1800 To Get It Going .at This Time I Cannot Afford This.
If Anybody Could Help I Would Be Very Thankful.
Is The Pcm The Computer ?where Could I Find The Computer ?i Checked Into A New Aftermarket Computer
They Told Me They Could Flash It For Me Does This Me It Will Work With Out Returning The Van To The Dealership
To Be Programed ?

Re: 98 Olds Silhouette Computer Problems ?

my bet is the fuel pump is gone. the pressure valve for the fuel rail is behind the powersteering pump . why they put it there is a brainbuster. the fuel filter is on driversside right below the back of the frontdoor.i rigged a line with a pressure gauge in it and turned the key on and my pressure went from 50 lbs down to 5 lbs and at five the motor would die and not crank up.i could turn the key on and off to build the fuel pressure up to 30 lbs and the motor would surge.these fuelpumps are cheap made from mexico when they came out of the factory.but cost $320.00 to put another one in.the new ones have a connector that you have to splice in on your old wires.

Re: 98 Olds Silhouette Computer Problems ?

has the battery been unhooked for a couple of days or had to be charged or jumped off? if so it might just need to be re-programmed. the reason i say this is last year i did the intake gaskets in mine. i took the battery out so it would be out of the way. when i got everything back together and went crank it up the lights were all screwed up,it cranked then died ,cranked then died. ended up re-programming as is in the owners manual and it straighten up, everything went back as before. if you have the owners manual read up on it and give it a shot it can't hurt anything. if this does not cure the power side door from opening back up using the switch. try spraying w-d40 on the door sensors and working all of them back and forth.also wipe the contacts on the door post with wd-40 and see if it helps it. let me know what happens. good luck

Re: 98 Olds Silhouette Computer Problems ?

my chilton manual isn't showing any grounds around the pcm.one place to check for corroded wires is in the passthru junction box. it is located underneath the driverside floorboard right under the footrest mid row seat.the fuelpump wires, fuelgauge wires and abs sensor wires go thru one of the boxes. these are bad about getting moisture in them. the bigger one more than the little abs box.if it is green inside it spray some electrical cleaner in it and see if it cleans up.
