I can't believe that in over 5 years of scanning the web for McLaren F1 content that I have just now discovered this. Also, the fact that it would seem no other images exist in the public domain of this car at that show is a shame. It is, however, very surprising to me that an F1 would have come to the USA for this show in 1996. We didn't even have F1s racing in the USA until 1997. I wonder if this was in a BMW display - it is hard to tell from the picture.

I assume this must be GTR #03R as that was the car which originally wore this livery when it raced at Monza in '95 and again in Zhuhai China in '96. No other short tail GTR would have ever looked like this that I can recall.

Anyway - very interesting!

I never noticed those USA flags in that picture - how funny. If I had to guess, the background almost looks like it could have been taken at the SEMA show held in Las Vegas.

There's only one NAIAS so far as I am aware, and the Velocity page makes it very clear where they credit that image was taken. I am just as surprised by it as you though.
