Cool I would like to lift my CRX

Just a quick story...

My CRX was recently stolen, then it was recovered...minus wheels and suspension. I had Tokico Blues with Eibach springs and 15" wheels with 195/50R15's. Approx. one inch drop.

I got the car back with steel rims, stock suspension in the rear and KYB adjustable in the front.

That being said, I would like to start towing my dirt bike around on a very small trailer with the CRX. The weight will be kept to a minimum.

Gas prices are too high to be going dirt bike riding utilizing my 2500 HD Silverado.

Do I have any options for lifting the CRX?...an inch or two will be fine.

I would like to fit a slightly taller tire to prevent the underside from scraping while driving down the dirt roads.

I appreciate the help.

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

I pull a tow dolley with cars with my hatch on stock suspension perfectly fine. I do think the CRX might sit a little lower, or it just looks that way. But I'm going to assume your dirt bike and trailer shouldn't weigh more than what I pull, so the suspension should be able to handle the load. As for lifting it to get clearance on the roads...don't know of too many options out there.

Lucky for you, they do make a hitch for the CRX, they just don't make them for hatchs. I would think they would be the same, but wasn't gonna drop the money on something I wasn't sure on, plus I don't think it would have been a heavy one like I have on mine now.

I do know what you mean on the gas prices, that is why when people laugh, it doesn't bother me...plus it pulls better than the truck I was using.

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

you could try to find spacers to stick on top of the springs, but i dont know if any would be available for these cars

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

You could only get a little bit out of spacing the spring and the top hat, but you could also get some washers between the top hat and body, on the underside to get a little more, but not really a whole lot and not enough like I think he has in mind.

This is actually a pretty good idea.

My background is actually trucks. And I am very familiar with the old spacer trick. I have seen trucks, especially the ones with struts instead of shocks, use spacers at the top of the struts. I'm sure they don't make spacers for these cars, but I am sure I can fabricate some. I'm guessing that I shouldn't go more than an inch because I might start messing up the geometry and the ability to get a good alignment.

I am looking to run at least some 195/60R15 tires. They are close to 2 inches taller that stock. I am also looking to get some stock 15 inch steel wheels. Does anybody know what will fit...4X100

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

actually, 195-50-15 is the proper upsize that will keep your speedometer and odometer accurate. Also. It would be very hard to be able to put a spacer in without taking the shock apart. The springs are under pressure even when the shocks are out of the car. Unless you have shorter ones. I considered spacers because my springs are too short on my ground control kit. Instead I ordered longer ones.

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

Even with stock springs, I don't think you can run a 1" spacer because there isn't that much thread on the top of the shock. Maybe 1/2" would work. You would have to take the strut apart to fit it in there, or get a spring compressor to compress it to give you some room, but might as well pull it apart then. I think a 1" spacer would fit, but I don't think you would get a 1" rise from it because when you put the strut back together it will just compress the spring on it. If that makes any sense.

I am currently running EG springs on the front of my hatch, which are taller springs than the EFs. The springs are lowering springs for the EG, but they still lower mine the same amount as well.

Now if you put a spacer between the spring and top hat, and put washers between the top hat and body(under the car, not inside). I know atleast the secound would would raise it up some, but not very much. I used that trick on my dirt track car to mess with corner weight.

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

Well also the spacers would make the rear springs stiffer IF they didnt raise the car.

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

It would do that. I need to get my H&Rs on the rear, just had time to do the fronts the other day.

Never over extend a B series axles...all I'm saying.

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

Your telling me... I shredded one of them when my cross-member broke, then 3 weeks later shredded another one when the repair welds came apart. And bought another not knowing they had a lifetime warranty on them.

Re: I would like to lift my CRX

I accidently over extended my axle putting the strut back on....long story short, had to drop the whole left front suspension just to get the axle out because of the bind it was in.

D series CV joints just have round bearings, easy to pop back in without disassembling. B Series have a rectangular plate behind the round bearing, impossible to pop back in w/o disassembling unless you are really really lucky.

Yeah, but I want 195/60R15's.

The goal I am trying to achieve is a taller CRX with bigger tires.

For lack of better words, it will be my mini-monster truck.

I'm not trying to get out of control with this project. I'm just trying to get better use out of the car while having fun with it. It will be like my mini-mini-truck.
