a/c & heater problem

i have a 95 explorer,which am trying to fix.the problem is when i turn on the ac or heater ,air only goes through the def and floor and when i press the vent button nothin happens.now i thought it was the A/C HEATER CLIMATE CONTROLbut i bought another one and it still dont work.any ideas

Does your explorer have the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) with the electronic display or the manual HVAC controls? Since you mention you press the vent button, I'm guessing the EATC. In that case, the servo for the divert doors is electronic and probably faulty. The servos provide position feedback to the control head, so a self test may reveal a code for the fault.

it's a EATC.how can i test the part that you told is the problem and where is located.pics would help alot,thanxs for ur help

I don't have a service manual for the 1995, so I don't know where specifically it is located on the '95. It will be somewhere near the heater/evaporator core housing. Maybe accessed from behind the glovebox or center of the dash panel. I'd suggest trying the self test first though to see if the EATC points you to something specific. I'll check the 1998 manual to see what the self test sequence is and maybe it will work for your 1995 as well.

The following is for the 1998 Explorer, but for the heck of it, see if it also works on your 1995. The process mirrors the steps listed for the 1995 Taurus, so I'd say there's a good chance it will work for your 1995 Explorer.

l The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display hard diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) in addition to intermittent diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4º-32ºC (40-90ºF) when performing the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false in-car temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.

l The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.

l To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.

l If any DTCs appear during the self-test, follow the diagnostics procedure given under ACTION for each DTC given.

l If a condition exists but no DTCs appear during the self-test, refer to the Symptom Chart Condition: The EATC System Is Inoperative, Intermittent or Improper Operation.

l To exit self-test and retain all intermittent DTCs, push the blue (cooler) button. The control will exit self-test, retain all intermittent diagnostic trouble codes and then turn OFF (display blank).

l To exit self-test and clear all diagnostic trouble codes, press the DEFROST button. The vacuum fluorescent display window will show 888 and all function symbols for one second. Then, the EATC control assembly will turn OFF (display blank) and all DTCs will be cleared.

l Always exit the self-test before powering the system down (system turned OFF).

l Intermittent DTCs will be deleted after 80 ignition switch ON cycles after the intermittent condition occurs.
