06 Aveo Wiring Harness Power hardwired?
I just got a base 2006 LS Sedan to save on gas, got rid of two older suvs on the trade, and it only came with fm/am. I have an old Alpine head unit I was gonna put in but I have to get the din kit and wire harness or so I thought. I was in Best Buy to pick up a new vacuum since the other one died and happened to mention it to the "radio specialist" in the car stereo section. He said there's only two harnesses one is like $124
and the second one you have to hard wire the red power wire to the ignition switch or it won't turn off. I asked him how that's possible since the factory wire harness I've already looked at in the dash doesn't have anything extra for that on it. He said maybe it's through the car's computer or something, ie he really had no clue but wanted to give an answer anyway. Anybody swapped out head units for aftermarket and what was your experience with the wire harness b/c I found a great deal on ebay for like $20 it's the din kit and wire haness thrown in. Here's a link http://cgi.ebay.com/CHEVY-AVEO-04-06...ayphotohosting I've done quite a few installs and never had to tie to the ignition switch when using the factory wire harness. My other option is to buy somebody's used CD/mp3 head unit for this car. I've seen those on ebay too for around $30-50 but I have a head unit and would rather not buy another one. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Re: 06 Aveo Wiring Harness Power hardwired?
The people at best buy are idiots. Go to crutchfield, or ebay, and get the proper harness for your radio. You will not have to cut any wires, you wire the new harness into the radio, plug-n-play.
You will have to use the DIN kit, because the opening is double-din, while the radio, I am assuming is single-din. The connection the moron at Best Buy was talking about is not on the Aveo. He is thinking of the Cobalt and higher lines where the radio stays on until you open the doors, then it shurts off. The Aveo, neither my 2005 LS or my 2008 LT have that option. If you use the standard Chevy Aveo (Daewoo) radio wiring harness, it will work without issue. On a side note, stay away from Best Buy and Circuit City. Their "Installation specialists" give a whole new meaning to the term "Special." If you want to find out something about Car Stereos, go to a professional shop, not some 18 year old snot nose'd kid trying to work his way through his college courses or fund his new bong. ;-) |

Re: 06 Aveo Wiring Harness Power hardwired?
I second your opinion about Best Buy. I would never and I mean never let them touch anything for installation. I hated even being in there as I'd boycotted them due to all the crap that's died that I've bought there, camcorder, dvd player, computer etc and won't cover unless you buy their ridiculous "protection plans." The only reason I went in there is they had the Dyson vacuum cleaner I wanted at $70-100 cheaper than anywhere else I could find it and Dyson has a 5 year parts/labor warranty from the factory so I don't have to mess with WorstBuy...lol. Whatever happened to build it right and it will last? Anyway I knew he didn't know what he was talking about as this will be probably the 5th aftermarket radio if not more I'm going to put in and I've never come across that issue. I already pulled the radio to see what it looks like and with the wire harness that just plugs into the factory harness and then you solder or crimp the lines to the radio lines right? Shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes I'm thinking. Will give an update once I get the kit, I actually found it even cheaper at a place called car XTC online it's around $25 shipped for din kit and harness.
