92 Escort Electric problem

I have a 92 escort lx

The motor will turn over but it has no fire to the plugs. The fuel pump won't engage when the switch is turned. I have taken the pump out and jumped the motor and it runs.

So I'm not sure what else to try. Any ideas??

If it works when you jump it then the plugs are ok.
I am not sure what you mean about taking the pump out... because if you did that then you wouldn't have any fuel to the engine.
Try and clarify this a bit... it sounds confusing.

Did you mean that you took the fuel pump out and it worked when you tested it?

How do you know there is nothing reaching the plugs?
Did you do any work on the car before this problem started?
Have you checked fuses?
Crank sensor plugged in?

Re: 92 Escort Electric problem

Did this happened all of a sudden? If so, your ignition control module (ICM) or coil may be bad, assuming you can't get any spark. I don't know if the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA, engine brain/computer) actually uses the info it gets and shuts down the fuel power circuit if it detects the ICM is not working. It would make sense not to send fuel when the spark plugs aren't being fired due to a bad ICM. Otherwise, I have no idea why both problems would occur simultaneously. Anything else that comes to mind is much more involved. Do you thinkd your timing belt went? That can be verified be cranking the engine and watching through the oil fill hole in the valve cover for the rockers to move. Did you have any major electrical problems happen to it? Last resort would be the ECA, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and try the ICM and coil.

Re: 92 Escort Electric problem

If you're getting no power to the pump and no spark to the plugs check out the 30 amp fuel injector fuse in the engine compartment. It supplies power to the fuel pump relay and it powers the EEC (Electronic Engine Control) which affects the spark.....

Re: 92 Escort Electric problem

check the ignition switch ... these switches are very cheaply made inside & they fail often.
