2001 Buick Century keyless remote programming

I have one original keyless remote and just bought a second on ebay. The car's manual says to take it to the dealer for programming -- but there must be a way to do it myself. I've heard that each model year has a different method of programming - does anyone have instructions for this model?
Thank you!

This worked -- no scanner needed for my 2001! Thank you so much!
