97 2.5L No Start

Hey all, I am having a problem getting my 1997 Wrangler 2.5L to start. The thing started and ran fine on Saturday, went to start it Sunday and nothing.

I hear the fuel pump coming on and there is fuel. However, there is no spark. I checked the coil, it had 2 small cracks, so I replaced it. That didn't do the trick. I looked at the ignition stator/module, it didn't appear in the best condition, so I replaced that, still no luck.

Lastly, I figured it had to be the Crank Position Sensor, so I replaced that. There is still no spark! I tested the plug for the ignition module, that test turned out fine (proper voltage).

I am stumped as to where to go next. I cleaned the positive and negative cables from the battery. I cleaned a couple grounds and cleaned the cable at the PDC. I can't figure it out. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!! Thanks!!

Have you looked at your cap and rotor? A cracked cap might cause the issue.

Funny that it was ok Sat and not on Sun...any water involved, either crossing or humidity?

I checked the cap and rotor - both are fine/in-tact. Humidity is a possibility as it has been very humid in our area lately. I still can't get it going though.

Did you get gas on Saturday? It could be water in the gas....if you filled up, try some Drigas or HEET or something similar. And avoid that gas station.

Nope, didn't get gas recently. It is the wierdest thing ever. I just can't figure out why there is no spark. Like I said, I've done numerous checks with no luck. Just don't know why the coil won't spark.

Re: 97 2.5L No Start

Are you getting a signal from your crank or cam sensors. Your crank sensor can be read with an ohm meter ( digital), and ohm out your stator, looks can be deceiving. you should have a constant power to your coil, and a ground signal should come from your stator. Check all your wires, ohm them out, anything higher than 5 ohms ( disconnected) should be repaired.

If you have a good meter(digital) You could check for a signal being generated at the crank sensor. Disconnect the harness, attach your meter an set it on te lowest Voltage possible, I think its an dc signal. You should see about .5 volt or so when you crank the engine. Also you should have a referance voltage on one of the wires to the crank sensor that is usually 5 volts.
