Coil Check

MICGIVER COIL CHECK:

1) Keep suspected Coil electrical connector connected.
2) Unplug coil from Spark Plug.
3) Connect a Spare Spark plug into Coil + tape it in with black electrical tape.
4) Using a black jumper cable, connect one end to body ground, and the other
end to the base of Spare Spark plug.
5) Start Engine
6) Does the Spark plug work?
7) Roll bad coil with a know good coil.

CAUTION - Becarful of the two wire electrical connection to coil, they can break.

Re: Coil Check

This will work with a totally bad coil and will verify the source of a misfire code as a spark issue rather than a fuel issue. Not sure it will work though on coils that only fail under load. Steps 3 and 4 are important. One thing you don't want to do is skip these steps and just try to spark the coil to a ground. That's a good way to make a good coil fail.
