Parking Brake Release Button

96 Metro LSi 1L, 5spd 86k mi.

Anyone know how to fix the Parking Brake Release Button ? It stays depressed and doesn't seem to do much any more - no spring feeling to it. You know the button you have to push to release the hand brake - yea that button.

I can't see any way to get at it either.

Any thoughts, experience, or ideas?
Thanks,
Gumby_CT

Re: Parking Brake Release Button

Your gonna have to remove/lift up the center console or the boot that surrounds the parking brake lever assembly, then find out if the spring that attaches to the lever is broken or it just fell off? If the PB lever button assembly itself has no means to disassemble it and fix the spring loaded button......then a trip to the junkyard for a replacement PB Lever assembly is needed.

Re: Parking Brake Release Button

I should update this - replacing the rear brake pads fixed the release button. Why didn't I think of that?

Re: Parking Brake Release Button

You might also want to check and make sure that all the moving parts are lubed properly too. These will get sticky over time and cause grief. Checking the condition of the spring is also a good thing to check too.
