Question 2000 Buick Century shifter lighting dims

The 2000 Buick Century has an illuminated column shifter and it has always been hard to read in daylight.
As time has gone on, it seems that the shifter light has dimmed and is even harder to read in daylight.
Is there a fix for putting it back the way it was (a bulb to replace, a circuit board, etc)?
This car has automatic daylight running lights if that makes any difference.

The fix can be found here:

Our cars do not have a DIC so just pay no attention to that.
