Re: What caused this on Coil?

1) What bank + cylinder did you pull it from?
2) Are there any others?
3) What did the plugs look like?
4) Does the coil still work?
5) Check the cover gasket for the coils to see evidence of leaking.
6) Were all the screws in this cover tight?

On the older LS,there was a recall on the Cowl leaking water onto the Engine.

Note: CSI might beable to check it for DNA!

Re: What caused this on Coil?

If you are looking at the engine, it is the driver side 2nd from the rear. Either 5 or 6, do not know the count. It is the only one that has those marks. I put it back and the car works fine. I think I read something about a recall for the 2003 model V8 on this. It might have been on oil and coolant though.

Re: What caused this on Coil?

If you're standing in front of the engine looking at it, with the belt and pulley's nearest to you, cylinders 1-4 will be on the left and cylinders 5-8 will be on the right if you have a V-8. If the V-6, then it will be 1-3 on the left and 4-6 on the right.

Was there any evidence of oil in that well? I'm with danielsatur on this one, it looks more like water staining.

You don't have any misfire codes or misfire counts on that cylinder?

Re: What caused this on Coil?

No misfires and no codes. Cylinerd # 7. Right side, 2nd from rear. It does studder around 4k-4.5k RPM's. No oil present in the wells. Is'nt there a recall for this in the 2003 and up models?

Re: What caused this on Coil?

I'm not aware of a recall (not really a safety issue) but I think there was a TSB related to the RTV on the entry point for the coil wiring. There is a channel at the rear (firewall end) of the coil cover for he coil wires, water could run off the windshield, down the cowl and onto the coil cover. If the RTV seal was insufficient on the coil cover/wire channel, the water could get into the plug wells and cause misfires. It would probably also cause staining similar to what your coil indicates.

Re: What caused this on Coil?

As Shorod said no recall, Lincoln issued a extended warranty, 10 years/100K on the 2nd gen(03-06) COP, boots, VC gasket, and spark plugs.

Program: 07M07 and 07N09.

Re: What caused this on Coil?

I also have an 04 LS, I received my letter and it is dated June 2008. It does say you may be eligible for a refund, you need to present a paid original receipt to your dealer BEFORE November 30, 2008.

PM me with you email address and I will send a jpeg of the letter.
