These are the best hedders headers for your 80's Caprice
It took me a lot of research to find the right headers for my '87 Caprice. Decided to post this thread so somebody else looking for headers for their box Chev won't have to go through what I went through.
Here's some pics, forgive the mess I still have some more cosmetic work to do: ![]() ![]() ![]() Hedman Headers hedman.com Part# 68298 These are ceramic coated and about $500. The drivers side fits perfectly with the exception of 1 of the spark plugs. I had to get 1 shortie plug and had some difficulty finding this because I've got vortec heads and the only shortie plug for the vortec heads I could find was a double platinum tipped plug. The passenger side is tighter and I'm not certain if the regular starter will work with them. I have a CSI high torque starter ![]() for the Chevy small block which is considerably smaller than the stock starter and also allows you to mount it in 3 different rotated positions which basically moves the solenoid closer or farther from the engine block. Even with this starter it's pretty tight in that area. It's a pain in the ass to install the wires on the starter because it's hard to maneuver your hand to get the nut on the stud for your power cables. The starter can be removed and installed with the headers on, it just takes a little maneuvering to get it down and out. I also got some centerbolt wire looms from Summit. (#RNM-1120R) ![]() and some Taylor plug wire boot heat protectors (#TAY-2562) ![]() and some heat shield cable wrap for the starter wires:
