After washing my car it would not start. The starter is ok, and the switch seems to be normal. I'm thinking it is some sort of sensor but I canīt figure it out. Is there anyone that has a clue?

be more specific with what its doing, if its cranking over, if you got lights inside the car such as check engine, if its cranking over it can be a fuel problem, if you dont got lights it can be a simple dead battery, just a few things that may be wrong but without being more specific you cant really say anything and its even harder not having it here to be able to listen to what its doing but hopefully for you theres no lights and the battery is dead.

Non-Start
Hi there!
A common problem with non starting E36's is that water gets into their DME control unit. This is located next to the fuse box. You'll know it when you see it, the unit with the biggest wiring plug on it. Disconnect your battery, remove the control unit. Remove it's cover and see if it's wet, (try not to touch any of the components)If it is, dry it out in a warm place. Replace the cover, reconnect the wiring (if you wish you can place it in a waterproof bag and cable tie the top), reconnect the battery and hope for the best!! This is only one possible cause, but worth a try considering it only happened after you washed your car. Hope this helps ali |

heard and seen that story a million times. i have good news for you though. i repair BMW DME's for a living. for the most part i repair them for $100 plus S+H. A new one from BMW will run you over a grand so think about it. [email protected]

BMW installed the DME's outside the cabin so they would get whet and make unsuspecting drivers constantly buy new ones. I think that company has been bought by Ford.

Motronics, is that by BOSCH? and why did they stick the computer otside instead of in the cabin like they did in the 80s?

yup. motronics is a BOSCH thing. my puter is located right where the battery would be. either way, a car wash, heavy rain, forgetting to put the ground wire on the thermostat housing can cause damage to the box.

I have a 1984 e28 and its computer is nice and toasty and dry in the glovebox
I can't understand why they would put it in the engine bay? I guess they wanted to give passengers more glove space. |
