1998 Jimmy brake problem

I have a 98 Jimmy SLE 4.3 4X4. 153,000 mi. The original brakes were about to wear out. So I changed the pads on all wheels. No problem. They seemed to work fine. But after driving a few miles I noticed the rear driverside wheel was getting hot. I just assumed the caliper was not releasing. So I changed the caliper. Bled the system. Now I have no pedel and the brake light stays on. The pedal will pump up with the engine off. but not with it running. I'm thinking ABS problem. Is there an easy fix for this?

Welcome to AF, air in the abs or still in the system, if in the abs a scan tool is required to bleed air in the motor pak. In the future if you cap or block the line at the removed caliper you will not have this problem and will need to bleed only that wheel.

Thanks for the welcome. Just now realizing I need a scan tool.

For future reference, how does one block the line to the caliper? I would like to replace the rear passenger side caliper. I tried to seal the driverside with tape. Didn't work. Fluid kept leaking out.

using a rubber cap like the ones put on the bleeder screw.i think u can get them in assorted sizes.Good Luck

Easiest and best to pinch off the rubber flex hose between the caliper and the frame. You can do it with vice grips using just enough pressure to close off the line, (don't pinch too tight.)

When servicing the rear disc brakes on S & T body vehicles, always install remanufactured loaded calipers. They include all of the hardware, pads, mounting brackets and pads. Resurface or replace the rotors. Do the job once the right way, and be done!

As Maxwedge mentioned, if the ABS unit injests air, the ONLY way to bleed it is with an ABS capable scan tool. Due to the cost of the scan tool, it's cheaper to pay a qualified shop to bleed the system for you.
