Water bypass tube part number

Hello all,
my 01 SEL sprang a leak yesterday and I found the "water bypass tube and hose assembly" had developed a small hole in the 90 deg joint. Its the black tube that runs under the intake and has a press fit O-ring to seal it. Ive seen some threads about putting JB weld or even soldering the hole, but I figured I might just inquire on a new one. When I run the part number through every resource I have (im overseas so it'll be monday night before i can call a stateside dealership) the number that is actually stamped on the part shows no mathches. Has there been a change to numbers that I didnt hear about??

The number on the part is XF2E-8548-AB. Ive tried with and without dashes.

Any ideas?

jammer, i'd be extra careful and double check that you are ordering the correct part even if it means taking a trip down to a ford dealer and asking the parts guy while pointing visually at the hose.

You are right 120unce, the top one is the one that is attached to the water pump and the other one goes under the intake.

Re: Water bypass tube part number

Thanks everyone! I did just that, pulled it off and took it down to the dealership. Parts guy was very helpful. He mentioned that they sell a lot of them because people dont maintain the coolant like they should (drain and flush). Lesson learned? Maintain fluids like they should be!

Thanks again

Re: Water bypass tube part number

I don't believe in draining and refilling ... but I do believe in checking the coolant about twice a year to make sure its rich in anti-freeze ... about 60% ... and at least once in early life of car, I pour in a can of "water pump lube and rust preventative".

I've never yet replaced those tubes either (230 kmiles), but seems like good insurance to have them on hand.

Re: Water bypass tube part number

About every six months I just dump a new gallon of antifreeze coolant in.. I just drain the tank mainly.. If you do that when a car is new you want ever have to change it.. Same with brake fluid.. I vac pump my brake fluid out like that to.. Need to do my Power steering now I already change it 2 yrs back..

Garync, could you briefly explain vac pumping your brakes. You have a hand vac pump you attach to the brake line at the piston, wheel cylinder, etc.? Why is this better than using brake pedal? I've obviously not used one or have one. Thanks
