Cool 93 c1500 tranny trouble

The Tranny Vibrates When Fluid Level Is Way Low. I Filled It With A Quart Of That Highmileage Fluid To The Right Level. After A Few Days The Tranny Started Slipping Out Of Gears. Had To Turn Off Engine And Start It Back Up For It To Go Into Any Gears. Checked Fluid Level And Showed It Was Overfilled. Bout 1 Inch Over The Hot Mark. 2 Days Later The Tranny Wouldn't Work At All. Fluid Turned Dark Brown And Smelled Burnt. Pan Bolts Were All Loose That I Could Unscrew Them By Hand. I Then Did A Fluid/filter Change.(pan Only) Now The Tranny Will Only Work In Rev,1stand 2nd. Wont Go Into 3rd. Don't Know About Overdrive Because I Cant Get Up Past 35mph Before It Slips Out Of Gear. The New Fluid I Put In Is Now Alittle Dirty Looking But Not As Dark As Before. I Just Drive It In 2nd Gear Around Town Since Most Speed Limits Are 35mph. After Doing A Obd. I Got The 67 69 And 73 Codes. Anyone Know What Those Are. I Then Noticed The Tranny Harness Had Some Damage. Bout 5 Of The Wires Were Shorted Together. I Seperated Them And Taped Them With Black Tape. No Trouble Codes Now But Still Functions The Same. Do I Need A New Tranny Or Is There Something Else I Can Do To Resolve My Issue.

How many miles on the tranny? I am not an expert on tranny's by any means, but I do know enough that what I think you're telling us is that you are having valve body issues. Your tranny may simply need a good seal job and cleaning. That would be between 500-750 bucks, providing nothing else is found.

Which transmission 60 0r 80 series?
Needs proper testing.
First you will have to fix all leaks and wiring to transmission.
Fix wiring good.
The only proper fluid is Dexron.
That other stuff will mess up you transmission.
Get theright fluid in it.
Clear codes and drive and recheck codes.
Let us know what code comes back.

I Have Failed To Mention That When I Changed The Fluid I Found A Cigarette Butt In The Tranny Pan. Do You Think That Had Anything To Do With It Messing Up?

Re: 93 c1500 tranny trouble

Whats An Easy Way To Tell Which Series Tranny I Have? Oh, And What Would Be A Proper Way To Fix The Wiring? Do I Need To Buy Something Paticular For That? Should I Try And Do A Total Drain Of The Fluid Some How? I Heard That Doing A Flush Can Damage Trannys.

Well is it old enought to be smoking?
Just do not furnish smoking material to a minor transmission.

I Also Noticed That When The Truck Is In Park With The Engine Running And I Rev Up The Engine The Speedometer Needle Jumps. Does This Mean The Speed Sensor Is Going Bad? Would That Have Anything To Do With My Troubles With The Tranny?

Re: 93 c1500 tranny trouble

The transmission pan shape will tell what transmissio you have.

How did the wires get shorted together?
Sometimes replace and sometimes repair wiring .
Just depends how bad things are.

No flush on it.

I Think The Harness Might Have Been Touching Something Hot And Melted Through. But The Wires Were Bare After Seperating Them. So I Just Taped Them Up With Plain Old Electrical Tape.

Re: 93 c1500 tranny trouble

I Got Codes 32 67 69 And 73 Before They Got Earased When I Disconnected The Battery To Mess With The Harness. But Don't Know What They Mean. 32 I Know Means That The Egr Failed. But Would That Cause The Tranny To Act A Fool? My Haynes Manual Doesn't Cover All The Codes For A 93 Model. But Now The Codes Don't Come Up Any More. Do You Think The Pcm Might Have Got Damaged From The Short?

Re: 93 c1500 tranny trouble

Your first repair step is to clear old codes and see what returns.
Do not go by any codes you did have .
Go by what it now has.

After leak is fixed and wiring is fixed.
Drive it and see what it does.
Post back any codes that come back.
Let us know what transmission add engine is doing after you drive and retest it.

A all data online sub would help you go threw the codes and explain any repair flow chart for the different codes.

Re: 93 c1500 tranny trouble

Old Codes Were Cleared After I Thought I Fixed The Problem The First Time. But No Codes Will Come Up Even After I Would Try Something That Should've Set A Code Like Disconnecting The Speed Sensor And Driving It. Which Made My Truck Drive In First Gear Only. And Would Not Shift No Matter What Gear Was Selected. Besides Reverse Of Course. And Speedometer Didn't Work While I Did This Test. The Check Engine Light Never Came Up Nor Did It Set A Code. No Codes Will Come Up At All Besides The 12 Code Of Course. Is There Something Specific That Needs To Be Done For The Computer To Relearn Codes After Cleared By Disconnecting Battery?

Re: 93 c1500 tranny trouble

When I Changed The Fluid And Filter I Couldn't Get That Damn Seal Out From Were The Filter Goes. Tried Digging It Out With A Screwdriver And End Up Tearing The Soft Rubber Off Of The Seal But Not The Medal Part. So Now I Couldn't Use The New Seal Nor Could I Use The Old Because It Won't Come Out. The Filter Wouldn't Stay In Place. So I Put Tape On The End Of The Filter Tube That Sticks Up In The Hole. Enough To Make It Snug So It Can Hold Itself In Place. Beleive It Or Not There Were No Clips Or Whatever To Hold The Filter In Place Like The Haynes Book Said. I Know This Was A Dumb Way To Fix That Problem. But At The Time I Was Desperate Not To Keep The Tranny Pan Off To Long. But Would This Make The Fluid Have Bubbles In It(foaming) Even Though Its Not Overfilled??? There Are No Leaks That I Can See After Test Driving. Do I Need To Redo A Fluid Change And Try To Get That Old Seal Out??? If So....how Can I Get It Out W/out Damaging Anything????
