I was trying to follow the instructions to reset the blend door or get the codes by pressing AUTOMATIC + OFF AND FLOOR within 2 seconds and doesn't do a thing. I just replaced the compressor and it kicks in after performing a vaccum and using 134a Freon. It was working like a charm right after 2 cans of freon but apparently the Blend door closed the vent. Any ideas how to reset that door since the way listed above didn't worked for me?

Re: Resetting Blend Door 95 SHO
It looks like you got some steps out of order, or used a procedure for a different model year Taurus. Per the 1995 Factory Service Manual:
l Self diagnostics should be run in ambient temperatures of at least 10°C (50°F). Record all error codes displayed during self diagnostics test. l Turn ignition switch (11572) to RUN position. l Push both OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously, then press AUTO within two seconds. l The test may run as long as 30 seconds during which time the display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. l After about 20 seconds, a code will appear in the window. To exit the diagnostics function, press the Blue button. When the control assembly is turned back on, the A/C air temperature control door will self-calibrate for 20 seconds. If no DTCs are generated as a result of the self-diagnostic test (888 code is displayed), determine the symptom(s). -Rod |

Re: Resetting Blend Door 95 SHO
So I need to hold the controls pushed in for about 20 seconds? No wonder I got nothing. I was letting go way before 15 seconds.

I don't know if this is right but I thought I saw either a 609 or a d09. Please let me know if those are valid codes. I am half blind so I may need clarification on this one.

Re: Resetting Blend Door 95 SHO
No no, press and release both the OFF and the FLOOR buttons at the same time. Within 2 seconds of releasing those buttons, press and release the AUTO button. No need to hold it for 20 seconds. The test may take up to 30 seconds to complete, but sometime within those 30 seconds (around 20 seconds typically) any codes will start to display.
What you think you say may have been the "pulse tracer" since the only applicable codes listed in the manual are "01", "02", "03", "04", or "05." -Rod |

Re: Resetting Blend Door 95 SHO
Got it correctly. I got Code 02. Can you tell me what that is?

Re: Resetting Blend Door 95 SHO
Code 02 = A/C air temperature control door damaged or inoperative.
-------------- Operate the A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616) in both directions using a 12 volt battery. The following pins may be jumped to use the vehicle battery. Make sure the ignition switch is in the RUN position. All pins are located in the C1 connector. -- Trial 1: Pin 24 Circuit 57 (BK) to Pin 22 Circuit 249 (DB/LG). -- Trial 2: Pin 24 Circuit 57 (BK) to Pin 21 Circuit 250 (O). -------------- Drive the A/C air temperature control door to the full heat position. l Measure resistance between the pins shown below at the control assembly C2 connector Pin 15 Circuit 243 (LG/O) to Pin 6 Circuit 776 (O/BK) - 5000-7000 ohms. -- Pin 5 Circuit 351 (BR/W) to Pin 6 Circuit 776 (O/BK) - 3500-6000 ohms. -- Pin 5 Circuit 351 (BR/W) to Pin 15 Circuit 243 (LG/O) - 250- 1500 ohms. -------------- l With ignition switch in RUN, check for battery voltage at Pin 1 Circuit 295 (LB/PK) of the A/C electronic door actuator motor. -Rod |

So in plain english all those circuits and pins mean that the Blend Door is gone? Instead of testing isn't it easier to just replace it for a new one? Give me your take on this. I found a online dealer that has them new and I am just about to order a brand spanking new one..

Re: Resetting Blend Door 95 SHO
That's your call, you can diagnose and have high confidence the blend door is the problem, or shotgun the part and hope. Your money, your time, and your decision.

I clear understand what you are saying but the question is if code 02 points to the blend door or is there another mechanism that could be faulty?

Re: Resetting Blend Door 95 SHO
The code indicates a problem with the A/C air temperature control door circuit. It could be the actuator for the door, it could be the wiring for the actuator, it could be control head, or I suppose it could be a door that is stuck in one position for some reason. That's the purpose of running through the troubleshooting steps, to narrow down which part of the circuit the problem resides in.
If you'd prefer, I can print out the troubleshooting steps from the service manual and e-mail them to you. Just send me a private message with an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments. The procedure is a bit more thorough than what I posted in post #7 above. -Rod |
