02 seville sls

P0440 & P0449 story: 02 SLS Originally a "check gas cap" message appeared on my dash monitor - both of the above coeds pulled on the OBDII. I immediately replaced the gas cap with an OEM - no such luck. Message still appeared as well as the Service Engine Soon light -which has turned into a nite-lite on this car. I asked around; was told I should replace the evap solenoid (the one next to the canister). I did repalce, 'check gas cap' message went away. After all was replaced I reset the codes. The P0449 came back on in 8 miles. I tested the old solenoid and it actuated, but that doesn't mean it was good. I'm thinking since the gas cp message went away, I'm effectively purging my fumes and the new solenoid is good.

So what the H*** is the problem now? What should I test and where? Do I pull the PCM and try to track a short in this harness. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Steve

Re: 02 seville sls

Possibly a leak or break in one of the vapor lines for the EVAP system? That'd be my next guess.
