1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
Hi there,
This is the beginning of my first build, the RC211V 2004. I have nearly completed the engine and will be starting on the frame and wheels next. The frame has been stripped with Mr Muscle oven cleaner and next I will fill the inside with some epoxy putty. This will be based coated with X-1 (or maybe XF-1?) enamel and then airbrushed with Alclad Highly Polished Aluminium. Regarding the wheels: The directions say paint with TS-14. I don't have this and was thinking of airbrushing with X-18, but then was wondering if it need any painting as it looks quite clean as is in black plastic. Any suggestions there? Thanks for looking and advice is always welcomed as this is all new to me. Your definitely off to a very nice start. That engine looks absolutely gorgeous.
For the wheels, I think I'd go ahead and paint them w/ teh X-18, as IMO it would look a lot better than just the bare plastic, even if you clear coated the plastic. |

Re: 1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
Your engine looks too nice to leave the wheels plastic. I was going to do it on a kit once, but it ended up looking really out of place. Like Adam said, at least clear them.
On the engine, you should take some testors silver laquer or some other testors silver and "pick out" (as they say) the bolts. That will make your good looking engine really "pop" (as they say). Looks good! Andy |

Re: 1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
Thanks for the kind comments Adam and Andy. I agree with you guys; I'll paint the wheels X-18 so that they fit in and look solid.
andybmw7272: I did paint the bolts silver where it mentioned it in the instructions (I think they are lost a little in the photo), but was undecided if anything that looks like a bolt should get the same treatment.. I think they look great with the silver, but didn't want to overkill it, especially if it was not true to the original. I'll have a closer look and see if some are needing it.. Cheers

In my opinion you should never use bare plastic.
Looking good so far. |

Re: 1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
I have now painted the wheels with Tamiya X-18 semi gloss enamel. I do think it better to paint them, but also think they look very close to the bare plastic wheels pictured above. Maybe they need a clear gloss?

Re: 1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
Great start! Stay with the x-18 paint as it is "semi-gloss" like the powder coated rims in moto GP, a gloss clear will make them too shiny in my opinion.

Re: 1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
Thanks Joel!
I've made some progress on a few parts, but I'm still waiting for stock of Alclad Airframe Aluminum to arrive so that I can start on the frame.. In the meantime, could someone explain to me what this means in the instructions: x-1:3+x-32:1 exactly what parts of paint do I need to make this? Is it 3 parts x-1 added to 1 part x-32?? Will post some more pics when have done some more progress. Thanks for your help and comments! Brian

Re: 1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
Thanks for that B4RT!
colbro1973: I used Tamiya enamel X-12 Gold Leaf, as per instructions, and I used Tamiya enamel X-10 Gun Metal for the individual link pins as a calculated guess! Thanks for looking

Re: 1:12 Honda Repsol RC211V Rossi - First build
Hi,
Thanks for comments and looking. I am still waiting for Alclad Airframe Aluminum to arrive, then will get the frame sorted out. Hopefully I'll start priming the fairing soon too. Here are the wheels with their stripes and discs on. There is more contrast on the discs than appears in this photograph. ![]() and the brakes, all waiting assembly.. ![]() Cheers!
