Tick-tick-tick noise only while driving

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu Automatic with 70,000 miles on it. It makes this annoying tick-tick noise that sounds like it's coming from the front tires or engine (not sure which) and it's getting louder. It's a tick-tick-tick noise that only happens while in motion, not while sitting idol so I don't think it's the timing belt. The noise disappears when I apply brakes so I don't think I need new pads, rotors or calipers. The noise is consistent, whether driving straight or turning while accelerating. Any ideas? I've had the problem for about 2 months and getting louder by the day.

Stupid thought.....have you looked for a nail or a stone wedged in a tire tread? I had the same noise once and it turned out to be a large nail stuck in the tire. The tire did not deflate.

The noise is usually a chirp, chrip, yes you need new pads, when you hear it scraping you will need new rotors.

How long ago did you get the brake pads replaced?
I agree with slls and think your pads are worn out! I won't hurt to check the pards to make sure...

anti rattle set for the calipers..not sure if you can get just the kit or if you need to buy the calipers to get it...ive delt with this before and it sounds like this is what it is...the pressure from the caliper going together stops the rattles..go to your local garage and tell them you want your anti rattle kit checked out on your calipers...some have little rubber bushings on the ends of the bolts that hold your caliper on..on others its a pices of thin steel that is tapped into the caliper bracket with a hammer or somethin...has a piece of rubber that protects the calipers bolts from rust...hope this solves your problem...oh yea and one more thing...if thats not it...check your cv driveshafts..theyll also make a clicking sound....but its shouldnt stop when you apply your brakes
