harmonic balancer installation

when i install the harmonic balancer will it bottom out against a flange on the crank or what? i havent installed one or took one off before so i dont know if i need some type of bearing between the balancer and the timing chain cover or if you just pop the balancer on the crank and it bottoms out on the crank before it contacts the cover. can anyone clarify my totally stupid question?

Unless you have wrong or missmatched components, or left out the oil slinger on the ft of the crank inside the cover, put it on and tighten it up, not mentioning the engine here, some are pressed on, but that is rare.
