How much louder will this cat-back be?

Some will claim the exhaust they are building you won't get the most out of your engine, but until your scrapping trying to get every last HP out of it, just opening it up will help you, and the crush bends vs mandrel bends aren't gonna make that big of a difference right now. Biggest difference between having most shops build you an exhaust vs ordering a pre-made cat back exhaust system, the way they bend the pipe. But IMO, i got my exhaust done for ~$80 vs ~$300, ill take the crush bent pipe.
This certainly seems like a mod that will be cheap enough. But what about the noise? The rest of my exhaust system is stock 91 DX-- header, resonator & cat. I'm thinking that this 2 1/4" cat-back wont be too too loud. I don't want the noise for a number of reasons. If it's a bit louder when i'm gunning it then that's OK.

What do you think?

And again thanks to all who've anwered my questions.

(background: i've got a stock 91 DX-- the d15 has worn rings and eventually need to be swapped out)

Re: How much louder will this cat-back be?

I am still running my 2 1/4" exhaust. It has had a couple muffler changes and it no longer has a working cat on it. Currently my hatch has a B18A1, stock exhaust manifold, no cat, and a Turbo muffler. Its not loud unless I step on it, I am very satisfied with it right now.

As for how much it will cost, it just really depends on the shop. I got mine done for $50 at a small shop. Bigger shops are probably gonna charge you more.

Re: How much louder will this cat-back be?

Thanks for responding, Tony.

Your B18 has way more horse than my d15. My d15 has worn rings-- bad compression -- and it's not a strong engine to begin with. So i'm stepping on it constantly to compensate. Unlike yourself I can redline it frequently without necessarily having to worry about speeding tickets.

Just an hour ago i started driving behind some kid and who had a little fart can muffler. I know that would start to annoy me real quick. (not that i'd ever consider buying a noisemaker anyway.)

Maybe it'd be worth it for me to get an extra quiet muffler.

Re: How much louder will this cat-back be?

I started this exhaust back when I still had my d15 in there, back then I did have a fart can on there...don't know what I was thinking. I ran the fart can for about a month after I got it going again, but after a 2 hr trip, that was it.

Trust me, the Turbo mufflers are quiet. They are just a cheaper version of a Flowmaster. They still look completely stock. Long trips no longer bother me whatsoever...and I have no interior to kill the noise, and several holes in the floor board(drain plugs and the ebrake cable hole)

lusone: on the turbo mufflers, I use them too, except they ARE fiberglass packed, according to thrush... dual chambers, one is resonated (stock muffler style) the other is glass packed.
