What Kind of Scanner???
What kind of scanner do you get for a 95 Grand Am SE 3.1 liter V-six. It has the 12 socket diagnostic connector which (according to Haynes manual is NOT OBDI or II...but ALDL if I have the acronym correct).
Here is a diagram of the connector and only pins. X's are pins...O's are emply plastic ^ OOOOOX OOOOXX Any suggestions? Is it work getting one? What kind do we like best? Where to get them?

It HAS TO BE OBD1 or OBDII. No option. From your explanation and diagram, you have the OBD1 system. You can get a scantool pretty cheap from Sunpro or others.

You have OBD 1 the 12 pin connector gives that away. The connector is called the ALDL which now is called the DLC.
