How to remove the factory paint on 1/12 Revell F2002 kit?

I would like to get some advise as to what would be a good approach to remove the factory paint?

They look quite thick, I was thinking either I deep them in a mild paint thinner and give a nice bath to remove the paint.

Or start sanding away the outter layer of the paint and give a nice primer coat and polish out the surface.

Does anyone have an idea as to what would be a good way to remove the paint? And "secret" chemical product I should try?... Maybe sanding is the best way?...

Is it a plastic or metal kit? If it is plastic, thinner is your worst option. I use DOT 3 brake fluid when I need to strip paint

That kit is a plastic kit. I left the colour as it was, looks nice

Have you read the FAQs by any chance?

Definitely do not use paint thinner. Skip the brake fluid also, it too can destroy plastic.

If you don't know what the paint is, I'd start with 99% isopropyl alcohol. You could also try a cleaner/degreaser like CSC, Purple Power, or Simple Green.

Thanks for the tip. Will try several methods discussed here. I usually use CSC and isopropyl alcohol to remove chrome and the usual paints, but I heard this Revell kit's paint is nasty.

That was why I was asking this question regarding this kit hoping someone who actually successfully removed the paint from this kit.

well Isopropanol will remove any type of paint i know, but sometimes it can take a lot of time. The paint on the wheels of my caterham took 1.5 years to get the paint off!! But there was absolutly no damage on the plastic. So this is probably the safest way.

I got the paint off the kit with brake fluid. No harm to the plastic. I dipped the pieces in it for a couple of hours and then wiped the paint off with a brush. I'm in Germany so i can't recommend a brand in the U.S. but the bottle says it's DOT4 and complies with US-Spec FMVSS Nr.116 DOT and SAE Spec J1703/ISO4925.

I used 91% isopropyl alcohol in a sealed tupperware container on mine and it came off very easily.

I thought I should post the result on this topic-

- The Castrol Super Clean didn't work
- 99% Isopropyl alcohol didn't work

Then I tried Polly S East Lift Off. Sinked for about 3 hours and the paints came off quite nicely.
