Angry Re: 1991 century 3.3l misfire???

checked vacum hose no sign of bad hoses. im so frustrated because the shop i took it to told me the converter the coil pack and oxygen sensor would fix my problem but it didnt so that was a waste of 80 bucks for the shop to diagnose it with the wrong diagnosing!! !! it seems like its something stupid goin on cuz the car only has the dying problem every great once in a while and its gettin old dumping money in it i just wanna get it fixed.

Look at the electrical connector for the torque converter lock-up solenoid on the trans. If it is a 4-wire square plug, unplug it and see if the stalling goes away. If it does, the TCC solenoid is bad, and is not un-locking as you slow down. If your trans has the 6-wire round plug, you cannot just unplug it, as this connector also controls the shift solenoids.

You're going to have to try driving it with that plug disconnected. The only way to know if the TCC is sticking is to warm the car up, drive it at cruising speed (45+ mph) and see if it stalls as you slow down.

Re: 1991 century 3.3l misfire???

Resistance of 500-1500 ohms is acceptable on the primary side (between the two spade terminals that plug into the module), and 8,000-11,000 measured between the two coil towers.

This isn't a real accurate test, unless they are way out of spec and open or dead shorted. As coils heat up, they swell internally. THis means that when cold, they will be within resistance specs, but when hot, they will short out.
