Car keeps dying

Two weeks ago, I was in line at a fast food restaurant. I noticed the temperature was high, and it started to die, then died. Car started probably 20 minutes to a half hour later.

A day later, drove the car on the freeway, when I got off the freeway and had to wait at a red light for about a minute, it then died again and would not restart.

This happened two more times, both times after idling for a bit.

Took it to a repair shop, and they drove it but found nothing wrong. So I drove it today, it sat for a considerable amount of time in traffic, and then when I got on the freeway it started to hesitate but kept going. I later had a similar problem when heading south on the freeway, though it had not idled all that long.

Any ideas what is wrong? There were concerns it was a vapor lock issue because when this first happened, it was HOT, HOT, HOT, but today was a very nice day

If you have conventional ignition, the coil would be suspect. If you have a HEI ignition, the ECM modules are notorious for breaking down when hot. In either case, once it cools off, it behaves.

It could still be vapor lock. Check your steel fuel line and make sure it is away from any heat source. You can wrap it with fuel line insulation just to be sure, any speed shop should carry it.
