My daughters 97 Just blew up
97 Taurus LX 129K on it and it just threw a rod bearing.
It was running real rough shaking all over. I pulled the codes #2&3 plugs mis-firing Pulled the plugs they loked real worn changed all of the plugs and new wires fired it up and its making a real bad rod sounding noise. So Its not worth putting alot of money into. So does anybody know how i can keep the fuel pump running so i can attach a hose to the test port on the fuel rail and get all of the gas out? We just filled it up and in California .... well everywhere thats alot of money. Oh does any body need any parts? let me know. tONY |

Re: My daughters 97 Just blew up
I tend to use a siphon pump to get gas out. Not sure if the 97 has a ball in the line. If not, you just run the siphon pump down the fill opening and start it going. DO NOT START IT WITH YOUR MOUTH. That can kill ya.

I would agree with using a siphon.

Re: My daughters 97 Just blew up
It has the ball in it and is hard to siphon out.Find the fuel pump relay and look up the power wire in a very good service manual.Put a very small slotted screwdriver in the connector to a jumper box and the negative to a good ground.Hook the big fuel line to a hose pointing to a gas can after hooking up a jumper box and check on it once a while so the gas can does not over fill.I do this a lot to junk vehicles even with full gas tanks.

Re: My daughters 97 Just blew up
With the ball you can still siphon it. Follow the hose from where you put the gas in down to the tank. There will be a clamp where the hose hits the tank. loosen the clamp, pull of the hose, siphon. You may find it easier to go with the fuel pump method. Ive never tried it.

Re: My daughters 97 Just blew up
you can find an engine for that at many yards, and Craigslist for $300 - $400.

Re: My daughters 97 Just blew up
I agree with finding a new engine for it! Far less expensive than most people think!

Re: My daughters 97 Just blew up
If it is the Duratec, very hard to find and go for more money from any auto salvage yard. Most yards throw the vulcan 3.0,Vin U in the scrap pile since they don't sell them.
