Re: 72 caprice

The car does not move under power?

I find it hard to believe that broken motor mounts would allow the engine to slide forward ... perhaps not straight up and down, but it wouldn't move forward. I used to have a 1972 Impala so I am familiar with the car - the motor mounts on these are a solid rubber block with flanges on each side.

Sounds to me like you have a bit more going on here than just broken motor mounts.

driving with the motor mounts totally broken will damage the frame mounting brackets and the holes for the engine mounts wil get elongated..

if you replace motor mounts you may have to use a larger diameter bolt or get the frame brackets fixed by welding a plate or replacing...

i'm sure your transmission mount is gone also....
