Question Cruise Control Issues 03 Explorer; Help please

Hello, Just yesterday my '03 Explorer XLT 4.0 4x4 56,000 miles; Cruise control quit working. You can turn it on and the green dial indicating it is on lights up on the dash panel, but, no cruise control.

ANY IDEAS?

Thanks,
The Rev. AC

Re: Cruise Control Issues 03 Explorer; Help please

First check the fuses.
Check the cable between cruise control motor and throttle linkage for free movement.
Check VSS - vehicle speed sensor

Could be the cruise control actuator, you will have to check these items.

Make sure your brake lights work properly too.
(not on all the time and/or not working at all.)

One of the items to check in the service manual for troubleshooting inoperative cruise control is "Battery is weak." As a 2003, your battery is on the verge of leaving you stranded if it hasn't been replaced recently. You may want to try replacing the battery before digging into the cruise too far.
