Is this place dead or dying?

I feel old. I've been on these forums since the summer of 2004 right when I was entering my senior year of high school. Now almost four years later I'm entering my fourth year of college and I still visit these forums. Maybe not as much as when I started out but I do still.

Anyway, this place seems dead now. I remember when the off-topic section had so many people visiting that a new page was created every single day almost. I mean to see a thread made yesterday you'd have to go to page 2 at the bottom, maybe 3, to see it. Now, at the bottom are threads a month old.

Where did everybody go? Where's the young blood to replace them? Why do these forums appear to be like ghost forums now? I mean hell half the mods in here I remember when they were little asshole members. Now they're little asshole mods *cough* 2.2 *cough*

Anyway, wanted to know if it was just me or if others noticed the disapperence of members.

Re: Is this place dead or dying?

It's been dying for well over 6 months, I've noticed the change in the lambo forum 2 years ago. When I joined in 2003 the lambo forum was much like this one, there were 50+ page threads, it was alive, this place was going so fast you couldn't keep up, now it is as you said, month old threads on page 1. I come back from time to time, but not every day.

Re: Is this place dead or dying?

Not dead, not dying; but there's many reasons for an apparent slowdown, some of which might be --

Perhaps the reception that potential new members receive when they make a n00b mistake has something to do with the lack of new membership....it's probably not the best practice to blast someone new right off the bat.

The internet's a big place - so there are a lot more sites available today than 4 years ago. But people will find their way here eventually. Or maybe it's like everything else - crazily busy at first, then that craziness eases off to a more "normal" level.

Or maybe everyone isn't commenting about everything, just doing less talking and more reading.

Yeah, I was thinking more of Fred

But there are a few meanwhile I've actually been here since winter of 2001 and stuck with this name since Feb 2002. It has been a few years, but so much has changed and there is a definitely a slow up. It's ok though, it's still fun to come here and frequent.

Main reason I only linger is because I grew up, stopped racing (and tried not to focus on cars so much), got into something else. I'm a photographer now and I have more post on another forum in less thana year than I do here over 6. It just happens.

Althought when I have a problem, I still frewuent the Jepp forums.

Re: Is this place dead or dying?

The summarized version... a lot of the people that used to post only posted in OT forums and rarely in the Make/Model forums. They were seen as a waste of bandwidth, some were banned for being non-contributing members, others got mad that their friends were banned and decided to leave.

Re: Is this place dead or dying?

Plus with the new cars coming out being almost completely computerized people are going to school for their computer programming degrees just to keep working in the shop...therefore...less time here lol.

Re: Is this place dead or dying?

As a newbie I can't see why people would leave or stop posting! I haven't been using AF for too long but have already been helped many many times! This is a great place to post about pretty much anything! To all you old timers I would just say not too worry! Things may be slowing down but I see no reason why they won't be back!

Re: Is this place dead or dying?

I noticed a big decrease in participation in the Coffee Break/Off topic forum shortly after it was "divvied up" and new sub forums added with some topics that used to be part of the main off topic forum. That and the addition of new "off topic" subforums added to other forums as stated above in another post, helped to divert traffic to those members who frequent that forum instead of coming here.
