96 Cav Fuel Filter QD replacement

OK...I bought a replacement QD from Ebay...looks like the same as my FireBird. Much better than the original POS GM. The line is hard plastic, I have heard two methods. 1. Heat the line in hot water for 10min. and slide over the new QD barb. 2. Use a heat gun to heat the plastic line and barb...insert when soft.

OK... the line you must heat is under the car. I cut off the orginial QD. So heating it in water in a cup my be tricky.

Anyone done this before?...Which method is best ? Does it have to be clamped after. The original was not, but it had a 2nd piece of larger hose over it.

Alright...looks like not many people have tried this repair. Well it is DONE!!
I can change the gas filter in 3 mins and do not need special tools. I now have the same fuel filter on all 3 GM cars I own. Purolator F54714 or Fram G7315

I went to Lowes and purchased a heat gun. Very slowly I heated both the plastic gas line and metal barb. Used the low setting and heated them both for about 2 minutes ( first time, I used HIGH setting and melted the plastic line.

Maybe the hot water would have worked also.

A second person would have been helpful also. The key is... do not get in a hurry and slowly apply heat to the line and barb together.

Finally I put on two hose clamps and check for leaks...NONE ....
