Article on CNN.com

This was an interesting article on CNN.com yesterday. My wife saw it and told me about it. I think it made her like the metro a little more. Also, if you search geo metro in google news, a few more interesting articles come up. It's nice to know that us metro owners own a little car that is newsworthy. Just thought I'd share.

Re: Article on CNN.com

Thanks good stuff. Metro owners are a unique group these folks are surfing the economic turmoil. They stepped aside and missed becoming road kill. But that reporter “12-year-old oft-mocked clunker of an automobile” what a pompous oss how dare they say such a thing. He should be lynched on an oil rig.

Economic pain is the simplest way to get people to rethink their behavior/habits.

Re: Article on CNN.com

Anyone willing to spend $7,300 on a Metro is definately out of his mind, especially when you could still buy one locally for around $1,500 - $2,500.
Holy Moses! If you really want a gas saver, just go and buy one of the SCOA's for about $12,000. Those little buggers make the Metro look like a Cadilac.

Re: Article on CNN.com

my GEO was nothing but a success story i paid 500$ for mine back in Feb 08 b4 gas prices started to get more serious. This car runs like dream picked it up off Craigslist from a guy that just wanted it gone. it had 123K miles. This thurs i was just toying around and put it on Craigslist for 2300$...i have no intention of selling now but i will be in Nov as i move from Seattle to NJ and have no desire in making a 3000 mile trip, my email was off the hook with people pretty much begging me to hold the car. Now i am reassessing my asking price for Nov, but i don't want to rip people off...you guys think this is a rip off... to ask 4 times the price of what you paid for a car..but it's an awesome car a real gas saver and nothing wrong with it with low mileage.

"you guys think this is a rip off... to ask 4 times the price of what you paid for a car"

If the Geo's perceived value has increased, and the market will bear the price, calling it a 'rip-off' isn't fair. I also paid $500 for my Metro five years ago, and even though I'm not selling it, I would see no problem asking $1500 for it today. I've seen Metros with far higher asking prices, locally.

Doesn't matter what you paid for it, it's worth whatever you can get for it. Incidently, a 93 sold for over $8,000 yesterday on Ebay. http://tinyurl.com/5rs83t

Re: Article on CNN.com

I paid $500 for my XFi back in May 07. Since then I have paid $1500 less for gas than my girlfriend and I drove about 7,000 miles more than she did. She drives a 2001 Chevy Impala. Sure visions of dollar signs flashed before my eyes when I read those articles but ultimately I would be the one losing out. I will never sell my Geo as long as it still runs and gets me from Las Vegas to Los Angeles every other weekend.

Re: Article on CNN.com

I was about to pay $300 for my '96 Metro. The owner (pizza place) phoned my wife and told her to tell me not to bother, it just blew up. His timing sucked. As he hung up the phone, I walked in the joint, right behind his driver. Very long heated debate between owner and driver for a while, then the driver took me to where the car was. It started and ran fine, but wouldn't move. They thought the transmission blew up. Back at the pizza place, I offered him $50 and half the tow bill, total = $80. Back home, I put in a new half axle, swapped plates, and have been driving it since. Except now it won't go (see other post "96...no go"). It must be Karma or cosmic realignment or something.

Re: Article on CNN.com

I just bought 2 (not running) for $300.00. One is a 92 XFI and the other is a 91 convertible with a ripped up top. The XFI runs but needs a head gasket and the covertible is only good for parts. I've seen a couple news stories on Metro's. I even seen one on CNN where an old guy was driving a 2dr automatic and told the reporter he got 55 to 65mpg city (which I doubt). I wish my automatic got that kind of milage.
