Strut Bearings Making Noise....

Hey guys, recently replaced my front struts and brearings. I used ac-delco struts, but went aftermarket for the mounts/bearings becuase the dealership didnt have them in stock. The mounts and beraings I bought came with a lifetime warrenty, so I figured what the hell. I think they were monroe brand, but cant be sure.

Installed everything, drives good, just that when the temps outside are 60's or below, my strut bearings make noise when I turn the wheels at low speeds or parked in the driveway. Its very loud inside of the car, but barely noticable outside. Its getting quite annoying, and when its hot outside they make no noise at all. The noise is a grinding noise thats defenatly a strut bearing.

Was just seeing what you guys think. If I should rip that crap out of there and install acdelco bearings, or if you think the problem might be a bad torque on the strut mount bolt. I could have swore I torqued them to 64 ft/lbs, does that sound right? It was just hard to do because I had a hard time holding the nut as I used an allen socket on the torque wrench to torque it. Is there an easier way? Do you think I should retorque them?

What is the part number for the ac-delco strut bearings? Any idea where I could order these at a good price?

Thanks guys!

Re: Strut Bearings Making Noise....

That is plenty of torque but it sounds like the classic noisy aftermarket upper strut mount and load bearing issue. Better off using the Delco especially with Delco struts. I used the torque figures below.

Front Suspension Strut to Body Mount Nuts - 24 lb ft
Front Suspension Strut Mount Nut - 52 lb ft

I have the old part number but check with Rich on the current part number.

Re: Strut Bearings Making Noise....

You're welcome Tim. Let us know how it turns out. And don't forget the alignment. Unless the struts are installed exactly as removed from the steering knuckle the camber settings may be off which is common.
