Fuel prices suck, how's your MPG?

I got done with school for the year on Saturday, so my mom came to move me out of the dorms Saturday night. We loaded up, came home, and I enjoyed a night in my own dark basement. I get up the next morning and the final that I had taken Saturday morning had magically disappeared. Fucking great. Luckily I know the professor (sort of, I went to his office hours pretty regularly and emailed him several times) so he allowed to to come back down to school to look through the finals to see if someone had just erased my name and put theirs, or retake it if we couldnt find it.

So anyway, school is 230 miles away meaning I had to make a 460 mile road trip due to someone's ignorance. I knew gas prices were shitty as hell, so to make the bite on my wallet as easy as possible I left like a half hour early so I could drive slower, plus I did various other fuel saving things like never take the throttle past about 30%, put it in neutral down hills, draft when I can, and roll the windows down instead of have the AC on.

I made it down to Minneapolis and a little over a third of the way home before I decided to stop, I still had a 1/4 tank of gas but I was getting hungry and needed to pee anyway. I checked the trip odometer, it was 320.2, and it took 9.722 gallons of gas. That puts it at 32.94 miles per gallon! Last time I checked my highway gas milage I'm pretty sure I got 29 mpg, so that means between the things I listed above and going slower (usually went 53-55 in a 55, 62-63 in a 65, and 65 in a 70 compared to 5 over everywhere I like I used to do) I picked up 4 solid miles per gallon! Sure it took me an extra 25 minutes to get home, but who cares?

So I get like 22ish city and 33 highway in the Cavalier, and I consistently got 25 mpg city/non highway cruising/not boosting in the Talon last summer. How are you guys' car's on fuel?

Side note, I didnt find my first final so I took another one, did decent and got out of the class with a B+.

Never cared to do the math for any of my cars. All I know is that the civic is good and the clipse is not as good.

Re: Fuel prices suck, how's your MPG?

Never really looked. Was going to with all the receipts from the trip down to SC and see what the highway was, but I threw them out the other day. Too lazy.

All I know is that Chicago made it in national news for having the highest prices. When I came back from vacation it's $3.99 regular out of the city. Still around $4.50 in the city for regular. Last time I filled up before I left on vacation, out of the city was $4.15 or so. Premium is close to $5.00!

Re: Fuel prices suck, how's your MPG?

I get about 200 miles to a tank driving in my own, unique, whiplash inducing way.

Most of my gas is wasted at idle. I hate buring EPROMS. I fuggin NEED DSMlink.

Re: Fuel prices suck, how's your MPG?

I don't remember... lol

The Cobalt however is doing great with the drive to work from my new place. I average about 36-38mpg with it. I was only getting about 28-30mpg from my parents house...

Whoa. I'd buy race gas before I bought premium. I think race gas is still $5.00. It was 2 years ago when I bought some, and I doubt its gone up any because no one hardly ever buys it.

Re: Fuel prices suck, how's your MPG?

I get about 17 mpg in the Explorer and I use about $25 a week in gas. My wifes Subaru goes through about $30 a week in gas and I'm not sure on the mpg but she drives a lot so I'm sure it's pretty good.
