02 Grand Am Trans? Sensor?

My buddy has a 02 Grand Am that he purchased a few months ago and he is having a issue with what we have been told trans. When accelerating it sounds like its riding high in the RPMs but it is not. Soon as you get off the gas the sound goes away... He took it in and they claimed he needed a new trans I was thinking more of a sensor... shifts smoothly... ANY CLUE????

Re: 02 Grand Am Trans? Sensor?

I had one of those a while back that turned out to be a wheel bearing. It didn't change tone when turning , it wasn't at all loose, and the noise wasn't audible without a stethoscope with the car on the hoist. There was a slight noise that was equally loud in the steering knuckle and on the transaxle. The customer wanted to gamble with a wheel bearing before taking it to a tranny shop, and it did turn out to be the wheel bearing.

It's hard to give a definate answer without actually seeing/hearing the car.

Yeah if they suspect trany troubles, I'd take it to a trans shop and have it scanned soon!'
The sooner you catch a problem(s) the better off you are, as more damage can occur the more its driven.

Good Luck
