Recommendations for better Brake Shoes?

I have a 98 Neon Sport with only 82K on it that is up for inspection. The rear brakes have always been noisy every morning for a few miles. Problem is, I only drive the car six miles to work each day, so most of the time, I hear the harmless scraping nose. This has been happening since day one, and it is really annoying.

I figure that the original shoes are probably getting close to needing replacement. Even if the shoes still have enough meat on them, I would like to get them replaced with quieter shoes (if such shoes exist). The guy at my local shop says that there are no aftermarket Metallic shoes available for Neons, and that is what would be needed to solve the problem.

Does anybody out there have any recommendations for a better replacement shoe? Advance has a lot of choices, but all of them are plain Jane non-metallic non-ceramic shoes.

I don't know of any aftermarket shoes for the neon and I doubt you wanna go thru the hassle of a rear disc brake swap.

Maybe just changing the shoes will quiet the sound.
