durango roars

I have a 2002 Durango and after a front end accident had the radiator replaced 1 year ago. When starting out and for at least 10 minutes of driving the front end roars with a high revving sound I have taken it to 2 differnt Doge dealers and and 2 mechanics and they say it is normal. No way! while it is in this revving mode the truck is extremely noisy and loses acceleration power. The only time this use to happen is when you sit idle with the AC on for extended periods and the secondary cooling would go on. Now that system is on constantly for the 1st 10 minutes of driving no matter what the temperature is summer or winter

Re: durango roars

Viscous fans can make noise on start up; and yes they are noisy. Is the truck overheating? Does the A/C work allright? Noise at start up is normal. Until the oil in the coupler spreads out an fills the cavities it will be noisy because the fan is fully engaged. 10 minutes is longer than normal. That being said are you asking if it should be changed?

Re: durango roars

I am asking if there is any solution to this roaring and loss of power. The 10 minutes is very consistent and is is very annoying. I have read on other Sites that it is the Clutch fan and if I disconnect it goes away and I have to rely on the electric fan. Everything else works fine no overheating and AC works fine. The original OEM fan was replace after an accident 2 yr ago and it has done the whole 2 years

You can go to a good parts store and buy a new one. Don't buy a cheap one.
Any Dodge dealer will sell you a new one. Count the fan blades and check with dealer parts if you have the correct fan. It may have been bent and not replaced a common problem. I would stay with a mopar fan.
