S15 V8 Swap Drivetrain

I have an '88 S15 with a 2.5L 5 spd, I am going to be swapping the engine for a 305/350 soon and i was wondering if it is possible to put a half ton diff in the rear and if there is enough room underneath for the standard tranny that comes with the motor?

Re: S15 V8 Swap Drivetrain

The engine and trans won't be a problem. Never tried swapping rear ends but anything is possible.might have to cut the tubes and shorten the axles.

Re: S15 V8 Swap Drivetrain

There are kits availible with V8 swap motor mounts, headers, exc. Use at least a 350 to make the swap worth while. I would use a T-5 trans if you plan on staying with a stick shift and are using a mild V8 unless you plan on swapping to an automatic. Yes, an 8.5in 10bolt from a half ton can be used but it has to be narrowed. Try finding one from a ZR2 as they use a narrowed 8.5in 10 bolt from the factory that had 3.73 gears and a limited slip.
