transmission acting funny

i have an 86 pontiac firebird transam 305tpi 700r4 tranny, and the tranny has been acting funny. the engine is perfect nothing wrong with it but i have very little power going to the wheels. during regular acceleration its kinda ok(once again not as much power as i thought) if i get more into the pedal the engine does very little in the way of accerlerating. if i floor it during movement or at a full stop it will go through first with almost no power and then rpm goes through the roof and then back down like the tranny is shifting into neutral then into the next gear. please help

Re: transmission acting funny

You can try adjusting the TV cable, but if the RPM's go up and speed doesn't, its time for trans replacement or rebuild.
