Loose Line
Hello. My wife owns a 1999 Jeep grand cheerokee laredo and I have happened to look under the vehicle today and spotted a loose rubber hose.I just want to know what this line is for. The line is located on the drivers side and starts from below the master cylinder under the hood.I smelled inside the line and didnt smell any gasoline or oil or brake fluid.Maybe it is just an A.C line but my wife is very concerned and I am not sure if I should use money taking this to a mechanic just yet. Please help,

Re: Loose Line
Where does the line go to?
It might just be a breather hose for the Front Differential.

Re: Loose Line
How long is the line? Is the any evidence of fluid ever being inside the hose? How thick is the hose?
Also, it it the L6 or V8 engine? I'm guessing if the hose is shorter in length, and about as thick as your thumb, it might be the brake booster vaccum hose. Things to check into - does it take a fair amount of force to brake? Do both windshield wiper jets work? Does the engine run a little rough? There's a couple vaccum lines that run in that area (kind of) and the wiper fluid reservioir is right there as well. |
