1993 Taurus Starter

I think my starter has gone on my car but i'm not entirely sure. It happened once where it wouldnt start but i just left it for 5 mins and came back and then it started fine. It started perfect for almost a week after that until today. It started perfect all day long and then all of a sudden it just went. It makes this clicking sound, so it this my starter gone or could it be something else? I'm planning on changing it by myself so is there anything i should know before I try this? and does anyone know how much they are? Thanks

Re: 1993 Taurus Starter

Is it a single click, or a series of clicks when it won't start? If it's a series of clicks, I'd suggest you first verify that your battery cables are clean and tight. Also, if the battery is nearing 5 years old, consider replacing it before changing out the starter.

If all you hear is a single click, then your most economical and timely approach would likely be to get a rebuilt starter, or have yours rebuilt by a local automotive electrical specialist.

The cost for a fix depends on which route you go and what kind of quality you buy. Most of the chain auto parts stores have online websites with prices, so you can see the options, what's in stock, and how much each one costs.
