Re: no gauges working on dig dash

Is there any sign that you can see it still working? Does it light up at all, say when you go from off to Run during self check? this is a 93 right? There are complete wiring diagrams for this in www.alldatadiy.com. For example, power to the Instrument cluster lamps is on Pin 13 and is a LightBlue with Red stripe wiring. Should be 12v there with key on which is coming from the dimmer on the light switch I believe. Run power also comes in from pin 15 and pin 9 (Purple with Orange Stripe) which is coming from pin 5 and pin 6 (respectively) Looks like there might be a full time battery source (unswitched) as well on Pin 7, Light Green with purple stripe. Grounds are at pin 8, 2, 10.

Re: no gauges working on dig dash

Check my last post in the Tech Help thread for a place to get repair info including wiring diagrams for free. To get more complete diagrams ask you local library if they have the Mitchell electrical manual for your year car.Be sure the connections are clean and tight and be sure you have a good ground connection. Were you doing anything in the dash like wiring a new radio before the problems began?

Re: no gauges working on dig dash

The wiring diagrams are quite complex. Again, the link from 97 bird does not have the diagrams for this. I suggest signing up for the 19.99 alldata deal. they have complete wiring diagrams for this, though they are very complex. The Dash receives power from the secondary junction box. This is a box located under the dash to the right of the steering column. On the panel, check for power at 15 and 9 with the key on. Should be purple with orange stripe. Batt power appears to be at pin 7. Purple light green with purple stripe. Check for power there first. Then you can start working your way back to find it. (make sure there are no blown fuses for the fuse block under the dash, nor any fuses in the power distribution block under the hood)

Re: no gauges working on dig dash

Wiring diagrams in the Mitchell manual at your library are complete and free to look at or not much money if you want to photocopy them! If you can get me the diagrams I will walk you through the steps to find the problem. I only have diagrams for a '97.

Re: no gauges working on dig dash

Well, then that's a different story. You should get the wiring diagrams so you can see what you have to work with. Typically when the display works but no illumination, that means a swap out and send it to the manufacturer for repair. They are not user or shop serviceable. There are a couple feeds for the instrument lights, but not sure what they do. Oh, and make sure you don't have the dimmer turned all the way down, effectively shutting down the panel.
