$115 to resurface front rotors????

I passed my mechanic yesterday to ask how much to have my rotirs resurfaced and he said that it wouldl be $115 because of the labor . He said it's basically like doing a brake job where they would have to take everything off then cut the rotors.

I'm a bit skeptical about this price. I can get new rotors installed for the same amount of money .

What do you guys think?

Should i go somewhere else for anther opinion ?

If you can get new ones for the same price then go for it. I'll take new over used anyday.

What i wanted to know was if they were over charging me.

I was guessing a price of $75. They're hourly labor rate is $75 per hour.

It doesnt take 10 minutes to pull a rotor. Just got finished doing pads and rotors on my 95 and it took me 1 and a half hours. Did it all for 66 bucks. Alot of places can cut rotors on the car without removong them.

Why are you wanting to turn the rotors without doing pads? Are you having a problem?

Are they the original rotors? If they're the originals and you're having uneveness in the braking, I'd get replacement rotors--not the cheapest ones.

If you've got uneveness in your braking, do you have a caliper dragging that's causing it?

I've never paid anyone to do any break work on my car, so I can't really help you price wise. But, if you don't want to diy, I would call a few places and just compair prices.
It would probably save you a bit of money if you could pull the rotors off yourself and bring them up. Just an idea.

When i hit my brakes traveling on the highway the front end vibrates. I'm guessing warped rotors.

I just had the rotors put on 10 months ago. Bendix brand. PAds were replaced at the same time.

I''ve never done any brake work before. I'd be afraid of screwing something up and getting into an accident.

Re: $115 to resurface front rotors????

If it were me I'd just buy new rotors. I just finished purchasing rotors and brake pads for my rear brakes and the total cost of parts was $191. If I was to get the garage to do the job it would be in the neibourhood of $400.00.

I really don't think it is worth machining rotors. New rotors are almost the same price.

I would shop around like someone above mentioned.

.
I agree with you Rasp. It seemed every time I had rotors machined, they would warp even faster the next time (thinner I guess) Over a period of time, I was paying more than if I had bought new ones in the first place. One other thing, I used to buy premium rotors and was advised by a my parts shop to buy the cheap rotors but the most expensive pads. My wife's LeSabre brakes beautifully with cheap rotors and good pads, and I did them a few years ago, (over 60k miles) . My new Lucerne, with 30k already has warped front rotors. Will be replacing them soon..brakes are not under warranty although it has bumper to bumper warranty. Go figure.
